We are delighted to announce that Dr. Thomas Strub will visit Belize for a dental mission trip from July 17th to the 24th with Peace Lutheran Church. Located in Hurst, TX, the church has been organizing and sponsoring the dental mission trip every year for the past 28 years (all of which previously took place in Honduras), and this will mark Dr. Strub’s 11th year of participation.
Five dentists, including Dr. Strub, and 23 support staff members will set up a mobile dental clinic for financially disadvantaged patients in Dangriga. The clinic will provide free teeth extractions and tooth fillings. He estimates the team will treat about 120 patients every day, although twice that amount of people may arrive before the clinic opens. Dr. Strub says they’ll also promote dental health awareness in local schools by devoting one day (July 21st) to passing out toothpaste, toothbrushes, floss, and small toys to children.
Once patients arrive at the clinic they’ll receive a demonstration on how to brush and floss correctly. Dentists will then perform a thorough evaluation and determine if the patients need any fillings or extractions. Dr. Strub claims the entire operation runs like a well-oiled machine due to the church’s previous experience.
Dr. Strub makes sure to include time in his busy schedule for dental mission trips because he believes everyone should have access to great dental care. He says he always returns to the United States with a renewed sense of appreciation for what is available in our country, especially since the mission trip is such an intense and rewarding experience. Everyone on our team is inspired by Dr. Strub’s dedicated service and the impact he’s had on patients in our local Cedar Falls community – and around the world.
